Public Pressure - Citizen's Action
Write to your newspaper:
A letter to your local or national newspaper is an opportunity to
share your message with a potentially enormous audience. Because it
is a personal statement, a sample will not be provided below, but
rather a series of things you may wish to consider as you write:
Hook
Is there any current news event that I could link my letter to thereby
helping to ensure it is published? If your organization has recently
passed a motion or resolution on the Tobin-type tax, that’s
news. Is world poverty or financial crises in the news? Are the financial
markets on another rollercoaster ride? Is your government claiming
it has no tax revenue? Is there a big international meeting coming
up at which your country will be represented? All these news items
provide a link to a call for a currency transactions tax.
Length
If it is a letter to the editor, it should be concise and clear, otherwise
it may be cut. |
